Synergy - The Secret to Fat Loss
If your goal is to lose weight, you need to learn and apply synergy. What’s synergy? Well, it is better than a fat loss pill, cellulite cream, ab machine and a protein drink combined. How it can possibly be better than all those? It works, and keeps on working! You lose fat for good and don’t have to buy a product making crazy claims.
Synergy involves 3 concepts. They are: 1. supportive eating 2. concern for muscle 3. moderate aerobic exercise.
All 3 of these must be applied to reach your maximum fat loss potential.
Supportive eating involves consuming equal amounts of lean proteins, starchy carbs and fibrous carbs every 3 to 3.5 hours. Lean protein examples are egg whites, chicken breast, and fish. Starchy carbs are whole grains including brown rice, whole grain bread, yams, potatoes, etc. Fibrous carbs are basically any type of vegetable you put in a salad. The only exceptions are corn, tomatoes, and peas, they are considered starchy carbs.
Supportive eating also requires limiting sugar. When you eat sugar, it stops your fat loss efforts, even if it is from fruit. Am I saying never to eat fruit again? Of course not. Fruit has wonderful benefits. But if fat loss is your goal, you want to minimize your sugar intake. I’ll address the specifics how sugar sabotages fat loss efforts in another article.
So, you need to eat every 3 to 3.5 hours. Yes, that is a lot of food. Metabolism is like a camp fire. You don’t wait for the fire to burn all the way down and put a big log on it. Instead you gradually add mid size logs before the fire goes down. Your body operates the same way, it needs to be fed often. The more you consistently feed it good foods, the more your metabolism will increase. At this point, some of you are thinking, “I can eat whatever I want as long as I do it every 3 hours.” Wrong! You need to be eating supportively and limit the sugar if fat loss is your goal.
The second aspect of synergy is a concern for muscle. You need to include resistance training. It can consist of lifting weights, using tubing, or your body weight as resistance.
At this point of my explanation, some of my female clients start to get that look of panic. You will NOT bulk up like Arnold Schwarzenegger. The women you see that look like men wearing a bikini top are taking steroids or other hormone enhancing drugs. Very few women have the genetic makeup to look like that. If you had those genetics, you would have discovered it at a young age.
The more you increase your muscles, the more calories you will burn doing your daily activities. This means your metabolism has increased. People who do aerobics and not lift weights can end up looking “flabby” or “not tone”.
The final aspect of synergy is MODERATE aerobic exercise. Women in particular, seem to think that to lose fat, they just need to do hours and hours of cardio. That is simply not true. Instead, apply the 3 elements of synergy.
Most cardio workouts should not go beyond 60 minutes unless you are training for a specific sporting event. Doing too much aerobics can actually hinder your fat loss. I realize this is a shocker for most people. It was for me too. But I promise, try synergy, it works.
