This time of year we are all running around, making a list and checking it twice. But let’s stop for a minute and take a deep breath. The best gift you can give anyone is the gift of health. It is something that won’t be returned, exchanged, or re-gifted.
If you are having a difficult time deciding what gift to get for Bob or Suzy, here are some great ideas for those interested in living a healthy lifestyle. Prices vary from less than $10, and can go up as much as you want.
1. Exercise Stability Ball – These are those big rubber balls you see very few people using in the gym. Most come with a DVD and are under $25. As a personal trainer, this is one of my favorites, and the most underutilized tool. Any skill level can use the ball, you just need the right exercises. It looks easy to do the exercises until you try it yourself.
2. Resistance Tubing – If someone on your list travels a lot, these are great. They are like big rubber bands with handles on them. You use them just like weights except they are easy to pack in a suitcase and are great to use at home too. Most come with a mini routine you can do anywhere.
3. Hand Weights – Great for someone who already has a ball and wants to do more. Add 3, 5, and 8 pound weights and they will be off and running. Hand weights are great to have at home when you want to exercise but don’t have enough time to get to the gym.
4. Workout Punch cards – They are available most places for things like swimming at the pool, running on the track, yoga and aerobic classes.
5. Yoga Mat – Yoga is a good activity for someone needing to get that blood pressure down. Most come with a DVD. Just make sure you are not straining to perform the exercises. If it hurts, you are pushing your body more than it is able to go. Several yoga places here in the Valley offer a free class the first time you attend.
6. Gym Membership – This time of year most gyms waive the initiation fee, so you only pay a monthly fee. You could even buy yourself a membership and become one of your friend’s exercise buddy.
7. Massage – Need I say more?
8. Exercise DVD’s – These are great for those closet exercisers or people that find it hard to make it to the gym. I recommend purchasing them from http://www.collagevideo.com. They watch and perform all the videos and give you their opinion. You can even go the web site, click on your fitness level and they will show you a list of DVD’s that might interest you.
9. Personal Trainer Sessions – These are really good to help a person get motivated and make sure the exercises are performed correctly. Unfortunately, most people lifting weights are performing the moves in a way that may cause injuries. A good personal trainer can design a program that helps the client achieve fitness goals.
10. Body Transformation Program – A Body Transformation Program is excellent for the person wanting to change his or her body but has been unsuccessful. These are similar in concept to “The Biggest Loser.” I offer a 17 Week Transformation Program. My clients have been seeing amazing results doing the program. Average weight loss is 25 pounds and 26 inches.
Hopefully I have given you some ideas to ease your Christmas shopping anxiety. Don’t forget that it is the thought that counts, not how much you spend. I hope that whatever present you give is cherished and used appropriately. Have a Merry Christmas!
